In Sweden we celebrate only one saint: Santa Lucia. She was a young woman from Italy and became a martyr because of her faith. For some unknown reasons she has role of bringing light to Sweden during the darkest period of the year and is celebrated with singing. The red ribbon on the girls says they are martyrs actually. It’s a very traditional celebration and in every school a girl act as Lucia with candles (sometimes real) in a crown on her head. You get up early and sing Christmas songs from house to house like the filipino caroling. Here are some pictures from Lucia celebrated in the church of Västra Harg.
